Fashion Praxis creator, Jamilla Ives, is a Designer Maker, specialising in British-made womenswear. Through the Fashion Praxis brand she aims to create high-quality, durable, ethically-produced products, right here in the South west of England. With a degree in Fashion Atelier, the artist is currently both a Technician Demonstrator at the University of Gloucestershire, and studying a masters in Fashion and Textiles.
Designing through making, three-dimensional development and practical testing are at the heart of her creative process. Her work, inspired by workwear detailing, has been developed through a love of pattern cutting and garment construction. Valuing both people and planet, she seeks to promote the labour behind the label, with an emphasis on respecting the craftsmanship of the making process. Mindful of fair labour practices, Fashion Praxis works collaboratively with other highly-skilled UK workers and businesses.
Fashion Praxis chooses to limit its production scale, in order to limit our environmental impact. In this way, we can control our production processes, and output carefully-considered, beautiful clothing! They are not, and never will be, mass-market fashion. This collection features functional, minimalist shapes. They are designed to be fit for purpose, yet flattering and feminine.
The product range is a contemporary take on traditional workwear and utilitarianism; this small capsule collection forms a modern uniform, which is both comfortable, yet fashionable, and suitable for the demands of busy lives. Beginning with simple dresses and dungarees, a neutral colour palette easily works well with existing items in a contemporary wardrobe.
